How to Change Out a Compaq Laptop Display

Nothing can get done anymore if the display on your laptop computer gets damaged and in most of the cases you need to replace it. There are just some of the laptops out there which come with HDMI and VGA connectivity, so you can connect your system to another display or monitor, so you can view and still be working on your laptop.

But this means that you will not be able to be portable anymore and this is not such good news. Luckily, you can change a Compaq Presario display on your own, with some instructions to follow and some accessories you will need. The process is a bit difficult, because there are many screws to take apart and you should be careful while removing some parts, but with little skills and some patience you can get the job done and also you can save some money, rather than put your laptop in service.

So, if you are wondering how to change out a Compaq laptop display here it goes. First of all, you will need a small head Philips screwdriver and a small flat head screwdriver. Then you will have to turn off your laptop and disconnect also the AC adapter. Now turn the laptop upside down and locate the release lever for the battery. In order to loosen the battery you will have to push the lever down and then you will be able to pull out the battery from the case. On the back of the laptop are two hinge screws that keep the keyboard cover in place. Place the small flat blade screwdriver under the cover, starting from the right and up to the left and gently lift up the cover. Now you can place it aside. You should also have a container to place all the screws and part, so nothing gets lost or misplaced on the way.

At the rear panel of the laptop there are two retaining screws that need to be removed. Remove the screws starting from the left and then from the right antennas and then you can pull them away from the case. Now that you can see the motherboard, you can disconnect the assemble cable from the motherboard and remove the screws on top of the case in order to remove the display. Carefully, you can now lift the display assembly off the laptop. If you have bought a new display for your Compaq laptop computer, get it out from the package and set it in place (where the old one used to be). Again, you have to connect the display assembly to the motherboard with the use of the cable. Finally, reassemble the case again as it used to be in the first place and turn the laptop on to see if everything is OK and if the display is working properly.
